The STAG presents:
THINK TANK #2: The Lower Mainland Painting Co. Job Fair
Wednesday, December 1rst, 7pm

The Lower Mainland Painting Co.(LMPC) is a new initiative forming around art, labor and art laborers. The LMPC is in fact a independent painting company that is pursuing paid work in the lower mainland, offering painting and low skilled carpentry services. It is also a conceptual artwork/performance/residency that views the site of labor as a ground within which artists can come together and share dialog, knowledge, questions, and conversation around the issues of their day. Their work acts as a vehicle for community, while at the same time engaging in questions of art labor, definitions, productivity, object-hood and economy.

The LMPC has already fulfilled one private commission and is actively pursuing future commissions with both private collectors and publicly funded arts institutions. We are interested in expanding our potential labor force (to add to our value and to enable flexibility from project to project) and at the same time are interested in opening our still emerging form to discussion, debate and consideration by prospective workers and others in the arts community. Please forward this to anyone you know who may be interested in joining our conversation.

So please come and join us Wednesday night at 7pm at the STAG.

Think Tank brings together Creators and a Public to engage in an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas, problem solving and mutual aid. A visiting presenter - perhaps an artist, an educator, a community organizer - meets with a room full of guests and poses a question, presents a work in progress, or reveals a particular challenge they’re facing in their work . By transforming a traditional “artist talk” into a non-linear dialogical space, Think Tank hopes to reveal the potential resources to be found through transparency, questioning and communing with people both inside and outside of our specific fields of work.

The Job Fair was success! A lot of rigorous discussion went into the project bringing up questions of structure; of how we measure and place value on different kinds of work; of how we’ll move forward! Lots of new members of the Painting Co. and a lot of great ideas… expect more in the near future!
