The Month in Review pt.2: Free Art!
While we know that this happened a bit more than a month ago, it is important (for us anyways) to revisit our Free Art! event. It was quite a success. A steady stream of friends, strangers and neighbors came through our door with their hands full of art to give and to take home with them. For some this was a very strange idea, and for others it made perfect sense. The politics behind what we were trying to do was loud and clear for some folks and lost others. As much as we thought we were drawing a line in the snow, some folks just saw it as fun and a great way to let go of old art. What can we say, they’re right. It was obviously cathartic for a lot of folks to give away art that they’d made and held onto for too long. I hope that someone else out there is inspired as we were to invoke the spirit of the Potlatch and discover the power of giving and letting go. I think folks need something like this.
